Introducing Project C.R.A.S.H.

We are sisters from Midhurst and are both in our second year of Police Foundations at Georgian College in Orillia. We are involved in a course project in which we have focused on an OPP initiative to create an effective media communication strategy to serve as a deterrent to motorists engaging in driving behaviours which not only endangers their own wellbeing but also compromises the public’s safety.

Our specific objective is to heighten the general driving public’s awareness of the lethal dangers of the ‘BIG 4’ driving errors, which include: distracted driving, aggressive driving, impaired driving and driving without seat belts.

We created and then launched Project C.R.A.S.H. The acronym C.R.A.S.H. stands for ‘Cherish Roads And Safe Highways’. After brainstorming ideas that might bring constant awareness to this issue, we ultimately decided to create a road sign. The sign initially started out as a pencil and paper sketch, which then turned into a computer graphic. A few days later, we had an actual metal highway sign prototype produced. The road sign includes a ‘BIG 4’ graphic along with our message, ‘Cherish Roads And Safe Highways’. Our prime objective is that when drivers see the posted signs, they will subconsciously be reminded of lethal consequences of the ‘BIG 4’ and take extra precaution when operating their motor vehicle on the road. Our goal is to not only create more public awareness on our roadways, but also to save lives and personal property!

Our further mission is to have the Ministry of Transportation strategically post these road signs on local roads and highways as a constant reminder to drivers of the ‘BIG 4’ driving errors. In order to do so, we are looking for endorsement of the concept and subsequent support. To this end, we created an online petition with the goal to reach 500 signatures. We are not looking for any donations, just your signature!

In addition to the road sign campaign, we are also handing out Project C.R.A.S.H. stickers and awareness cards. We have launched Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages as well as a website. Every day, we share important information, statistics and news updates all relating to the ‘BIG 4’ and Project C.R.A.S.H.

We are very excited about the project as well as the prospect of seeing this important road sign message on all roadways with the specific hope that the public in turn respond and “Cherish Roads And Safe Highways”.

Thanks for your support!
